Mr. Broad Builds His Dream Museum

His latest project is the Broad Contemporary Art Museum, a new wing at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) that's billed as one of the largest spaces in the country devoted exclusively to contemporary art. "BCAM" debuted on Feb. 9 with a swanky on-site dinner party attended by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes, and a bit of headline-generating controversy worthy of a Hollywood premiere. The building opens to the public on Feb. 16.

Broad became a billionaire several times over by catering to the needs of post-World War II families. His first company, KB Home (KBH), is still among the nation's largest homebuilders. He also built Sun America, now a part of American International Group (AIG), into the nation's largest seller of annuities.

Wii, PS3 Celebrate First Birthdays; 'Halo 3' Expands; 'Ghostbusters ...

Last Friday, to celebrate the first year of the PlayStation 3's release in North America, Sony sent out birthday cakes to reporters.

Arriving at the MTV offices at 8:30 a.m., along with party hats and noisemakers, was an 11-inch, square yellow cake with vanilla butter icing on the outside, vanilla custard within and topped with a printed, edible image of a PS3.

Monday was the Wii's one-year birthday in America, and Nintendo sent nothing. But who should really be celebrating?

One year later, here's a look at how the two stack up:

Some comparisons are obvious: The Wii has handily outsold Sony's machine, and according to the NPD tracking group, in October there were 519,000 Wiis sold to 121,000 PS3s. The Wii crossed over as a cultural phenomenon, being used as a prop on late-night talk shows, while the PS3 largely went unnoticed.

Jonathan Takiff: That special Valentine's gift? Color it high tech

The Gizmo: Fashion-conscious high-tech gifts from the heart.

Shop Til You Drop: You could buy her a sweater or some sexy underwear, if you dare, or maybe some flowers. But what fun is it for a guy to shop for those kinds of Valentine's Day presents, when he could be hanging out instead at his favorite electronics store, and buying his honey something that he feels comfortable with, and that she could really use and (effectively) wear, day in/day out?

That seems to be the thinking behind some of the high-style, colorfully wrapped, high-tech gift items that manufacturers are now promoting for guys to give their girls - or for women to get for themselves.

Gizmos as Art: Tech gear has been "worn" as a mainstream fashion statement as well as for practical purposes ever since Kodak first strung a neck strap to its leather-clad Brownie box camera at the turn of the 20th century.

Jurors see school intruder in recording

A man claiming to want a job is allowed into Clarke Middle School, but he ducks into a room, dons a jacket with a hood pulled down low and furtively looks both ways before sneaking into a girls' restroom and trying to rape a 12-year-old student.

That's what prosecutors claim 32-year-old Michael James Kirt did the morning of March 1, and on Wednesday they showed jurors in Clarke County Superior Court surveillance camera footage that caught everything Kirt did in the Baxter Street school - except while he was in the restroom where the alleged attack happened.

The girl he allegedly cornered in a bathroom stall screamed and attracted the attention of school employees, one of whom testified Wednesday that Kirt was holding up his pants, which had fallen "below his butt" as he fled.

Gadgets Kodak Shows World's First 1.4 Micron 5MP Camera Chip

Kodak cut its teeth in the world of print photography and film based cameras with a history going back for decades. With the advent of the digital photography revolution, Kodak has been reinventing itself as a player in the digital photography industry rather than a maker of film and film-based cameras.

Kodak leveraged its vast patent library to devise a new camera chip that could make camera phones much more usable. Anyone who has tried to use a camera phone knows that typically the images turn out dark and blurry because the camera portion of most phones is something added on as a secondary function.

Kodak sees its new camera chip as making the camera portion of the phone one of the main features in the future. According to the Associated Press (AP) the new Kodak sensor is the world's first 1.4 micron, 5 megapixel camera chip.
